Every prescription requires review and approval by a state-licensed provider. Your provider may decline to prescribe if treatment isn't medically appropriate.
Who shouldn't take GLP-1 medications
- People with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC)
- People with Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2)
- People with a history of severe pancreatitis
- People who are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding
- People with severe gastrointestinal disease (e.g., gastroparesis)

Boxed warning
Thyroid C-cell tumors. In rodent studies, GLP-1 receptor agonists caused thyroid C-cell tumors. It is unknown whether this risk applies to humans. Tell your provider if you experience a lump or swelling in your neck, hoarseness, trouble swallowing, or shortness of breath.
Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, abdominal pain, fatigue, headache. Most side effects are mild to moderate and improve as your body adjusts to the medication.
When to seek emergency care
Call 911 or go to the nearest ER if you experience: severe abdominal pain (especially radiating to your back), persistent vomiting, signs of an allergic reaction (swelling of face, throat, or tongue; difficulty breathing), or vision changes.
Report adverse events
Tell your ORIVA provider through the portal and report to the FDA MedWatch program.
